Professor Hong Wanjin, an alumnus of the 1978 cohort, the School of Life Sciences of Xiamen University, was awarded the Singapore President’s Science and Technology Medal in December 2022 , for his work on building up the biomedical sciences research ecosystem in Singapore.

The President’s Science and Technology Award is the highest honor for research scientists and engineers in Singapore which consists of three categories: the President’s Science and Technology Medal, the President’s Science Award, and the President’s Technology Award. This is the second time that Professor Hong Wanjin has received the award. In 1999, he was awarded Singapore's Highest Scientific Award, which was the precursor to the President's Science Award.
