Title: Molecular mechanism and machinery driving unconventional secretion of FGF2, a potent cell survival factor mediating tumor-induced angiogenesis

Speaker: Pro. Walter Nickel

Time:April 9, 2024 at 9:30 AM

Venue: Academic Report Hall, Yuejin Building

Introduction of the speaker: Walter Nickel is a Professor for Biochemistry at Heidelberg University (Germany). He studied at Göttingen University (Germany) where he also obtained a doctoral degree in the natural sciences. Following post-doctoral studies with Felix T. Wieland at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center and James E. Rothman at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York, NY, U.S.A.), he obtained a full professorship in Biochemistry at Heidelberg University, both steering a research group and teaching Bachelor and Master students in Biochemistry. Walter Nickel is known for the elucidation of the molecular mechanism of the unconventional secretory pathway of Fibroblast Growth Factor 2, a potent cell survival factor involved in tumor-induced angiogenesis
