The 9th Xiamen Winter Symposium on “Hippo Signaling in Development & Disease” was held in Xiamen, China from November 2 to 5, 2018. The meeting was jointly organized by the School of Life Sciences of Xiamen University, State Key Laboratory of Cellular Stress Biology of Xiamen University, Innovation Center for Cell Signaling Network and Chinese Society for Cell Biology.

The Symposium attracted over 350 participants from universities and research institutions in countries and regions including China, the USA, UK, Germany, Italy, Singapore, etc., to attend the meeting, which has been the largest number ever. 40 domestic and international experts in related fields were invited as speakers. Professor Duojia Pang from Department of Physiology, UT Southwestern Medical Center, Professor Fernando Camargo from Harvard Medical School, Professor Kunliang Guan from Moores Cancer Center, UC San Diego Health and Professor Dawang Zhou from Xiamen University were the chairmen of the Symposium.

The Symposium this year focused on how Hippo signal pathway perceives organ size and tissue homeostasis, how it regulates organ development, regeneration and size-controlling via cellular growth, differentiation and death as well as the pathogenesis of serious diseases including abnormal tissue development and regeneration, infection and autoimmunity, metabolic disorder, carcinogenesis resulting from abnormal of Hippo pathway. Moreover, new strategies of targeted intervention have also been put forward and discussed.

Xiamen Winter Symposium is an annual academic event initiated by Xiamen University, National University of Singapore and Tsinghua University. Adhering to the research and exploration of the frontier fields of life science, the Symposium has appealed high attention and praise of scholars globally and become one of the brand academic conferences of Xiamen University.
