【报告人简介】Prof. Masanori Izumi earned his Ph.D. in Agricultural Science from Tohoku University in 2012. Following his role as an Assistant Professor at the Frontier Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Sciences (FRIS) at Tohoku University, he joined RIKEN, where he is now a Senior Scientist at the Center for Sustainable Resource Science (CSRS). His research focuses on the degradation mechanisms of chloroplasts in plant leaves, a key process for improving nutrient use efficiency in crops. Prof. Izumi has uncovered the role of autophagy, a universal degradation pathway, in chloroplast recycling, with particular attention to how chloroplasts are transported to vacuoles during autophagy. In this seminar, he will discuss two types of autophagy that target chloroplasts in response to environmental and developmental changes, along with updates on his ongoing research.
