1982年厦门大学动物学专业毕业留校任教，曾赴澳大利亚悉尼大学访问研究2年。1999年起任教授、副院长。兼任Member of Heron Specialist Group，中国动物学学会理事，中国动物学会鸟类学分会理事，教育部高等学校生物科学与工程教学指导委员会委员，福建省动物学学会副理事长, 福建省野生动物保护协会常务理事等。主持国家自然科学基金、福建省自然科学基金等科研课题。主编《动物生物学》、《生态学》等教材，发表论文70余篇，曾获市级、省级和国家级奖励。
研究兴趣：
动物生态与保护生物学。以亚热带滨海鸟类等脊椎动物为主要研究对象，利用宏观生物学和微观生物学方法，研究动物行为、生存、繁殖、数量和分布与环境的相互作用规律、动物对环境变化的适应、珍稀濒危动物的致危机制、动物多样性及其栖息地的保护、自然保护区的建设和管理、动物系统进化和污染生态学等理论和实践问题。

Research Interests：
Our researches focus on the theoretic and practice questions in animal ecology and conservation biology, including the mechanism of animal adaptive to its changed environment, endangered mechanism of rare and threaten animal, conservation of animal diversity and its habitats, construction and management of natural reserve, animal phylogenetic evolution and pollution ecology. The animals focused are vertebrates, especially waterbirds in subtropical coast region.
